Latifah Mubarokiyah Institute of Islamic Religion (IAILM) Suryalaya Tasikmalaya
The establishment of the Latifah Mubarokiyah Islamic Institute (IAILM) Suryalaya Tasikmalaya stems from the ideals of Sheikh KH. Abdullah Mubarok bin Noor Muhammad ra as the first founder of the Suryalaya Islamic Boarding School in 1905. This hope was later realized by his son KH. Ahmad Sohibul Wafa Tajul Arifin ra as the next trustee. His birth was based on the noble ideals of participating in educating the nation, improving the quality of personality and broadening the knowledge horizon of Muslims.
The idea of establishing a campus was only realized in 1967 with the establishment of PTDI (University of Islamic Da'wah) led by Lt. Gen. Sarbini. At that time, it had been able to absorb 300 students consisting of elementary, junior and senior high school teachers as well as local government employees around Ciamis and Tasikmalaya districts. In 1970 PTDI Suryalaya moved to the city of Tasikmalaya. This year, regular non-degree lectures are held, twice a week. The teachers were brought from IKIP Bandung.
Is Prof. Dr. Abu Bakar Atjeh in 1973 who gave rise to the idea of establishing a more integrated university. So in 1975, three hectares of land were prepared for a university campus. The campus was immediately established under the leadership of the TNI General. (Ret.) Yoga Sugama. In the early 1980s, with the help of one of the TQN brothers, a permanent building was erected. In 1985 there were 4 more locales with the size of each local being 8×9 M plus a porch 6×8 M. Then a Higher Education Founding Committee was arranged by decree. For the hard work of the academic community and the founders of the institution, a university with the name "Latifah Mubarokiyah" was created which was inaugurated on 2 Muharam 1408 H, coinciding with PP's anniversary. The 81st Suryalaya. This university was named Latifah Mubarokiyah based on two main reasons.
First, Latifah is a term used in Sufism circles. The Sufis describe that Latifah is a subtle part of humans that needs to be filled with the sentence of monotheism which in turn will radiate al morality al karimah, so that a virtuous and whole human being or al insan al kamil is achieved.
Second, Mubarokiyah was taken from the Founder of the Islamic Boarding School, Suryalaya, namely Sheikh Abdulah Mubarok bin Nur Muhammad ra, this narlia was used to honor his services and follow his example.
In the first year, two faculties were opened, Tarbiyah and Shari'ah. Two years later, the Faculty of Ushuluddin followed so that the university changed its name to the Latifah Mubarokiyah Islamic Institute. Those who have held the position of Chancellor at the Latifah Mubarokiyah Islamic Institute (IAILM) Suryalaya Tasikmalaya are Major General Pol. (Ret.) Drs.
